Bobcaygeon's Creative Movement Centre of Dance (BCMCD) is a studio unlike anything in the community! BCMCD believes that dance is for anyone who has a passion for the art form and a desire to grow physically and emotionally. Every dancer is different with their own unique set of goals, which is why we offer a wide variety of class environment types and focus levels. All of our technique and creative expression classes are taught through a holistic, mind-body approach where dancers learn to use their bodies in movement based on sensory observations. To encourage this internal learning approach, we do not have a full wall of mirrors in our studio so dancers are not distracted by external stimuli.
BCMCD recognizes that dance knows no limits, which is why classes are available to all ages and levels of ability. We have Introduction to Dance and Recreational classes available for all ages in styles such Acrobatics, Ballet (Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus offered), Burlesque (for adults), Contemporary, Creative Movement, Hip Hop, Improvisation, Jazz, Tap, Teeny Tappers, Tiny Tots, Mighty Movers, Mini Monkeys, and Zumba. We also offer Modern as the technique on which we base our Choreography program. This program is designed for dancers who show a desire to learn in a more dedicated, focused environment as they are presented with additional choreographic learning opportunities in a wide variety of other styles.
We now offer one optional dance competition annually for dancers over the age of 14 in our Choreography program. Many elements such as dance competitions’ values, result subjectivity, and impacts are important for dancers to understand and acknowledge. Based on extensive academic research on the subject, we believe that our dancers should reach this certain level of physical and mental maturity to ensure competition is a healthy addition to a dancer's education.
In addition, BCMCD has Dance With Support classes for individuals of all ages. These classes offer a supportive environment for dancers with disabilities or impairments who may require modified learning strategies and teaching styles. We also pride ourselves in offering financially accessible class prices and recital fees as well as a Sponsor A Dancer program to assist families who could not otherwise financially afford to participate in our programming.
We are now taking registrations for our Winter & Spring 2025 term! Private and Semi-Private classes are also available upon request.
